Kiprotich Rono
Kiprotich Rono ( George Kiprotich "Kip" Rono; born January 4, 1958 ) is a former Kenyan obstacle and long-distance runner .
In 1978 he won over 3000 m obstacle at the Africa Games in Algiers and at the Commonwealth Games in Edmonton bronze, each beaten by his compatriots Henry Rono and James Munyala .
The following year he won the 1979 African Athletics Championships in the same discipline and took bronze in the 5000 m . Shortly afterwards, he won the World Cup in Athletics in Montreal over 3000 m obstacle. The boycott of Kenya prevented participation in the Moscow Olympic Games .
Over 3000 m obstacle he reached the semi-finals at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 1983 and was eliminated in the preliminary run at the 1984 Olympic Games .
In 1988 he was eighth at the World Cross Country Championships in Auckland . A fourth place at the Great Scottish Run was followed by a victory at the Le Lion half marathon on a short distance in 1:00:02 h.
