Richard Kipkemboi Mateelong (also spelled Matelong ; born October 14, 1983 in Lenape near Narok , Rift Valley Province ) is a Kenyan obstacle runner .

The 2004 runner-up in Africa finished second in the World Athletics Finals in 2006 and 2007 .

He won the bronze medal at the 2007 World Athletics Championships in Osaka and the bronze medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. At the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, he won the silver medal with a new personal best. In 2010 he won both the African Athletics Championships in Nairobi and the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi .

Richard Kipkemboi Mateelong belongs to the Nandi ethnic group and is employed by the Kenyan police. He lives mainly in Nyeri and trains in Nyahururu . He has been married since 2005 and has had a son since 2006.
