Adeline with propellers extended with the first stage of Ariane 6

Adeline is a rocket -Entwicklungsprojekt of Airbus Defense and Space , the manufacturer of the European Ariane rocket with the aim of future missiles, especially the currently by the consortium Airbus saffron launcher developed Ariane 6 , partly to recycle and reduce the costs significantly. Adeline stands as an acronym for AD vanced E xpendable L auncher with IN novative engine E conomy (meaning: advanced starter device for single use with innovative drive economy ).

The basic concept is to change the first stage of the rocket so that the lowest part of the very expensive rocket engine from the all return and can land using fixed wing should. The propulsion of the returning flying object is to be carried out by means of propellers that open on the back of the wings . The continued use of the rocket engine, instead of the usual glowing up when it re-enters the atmosphere, should reduce overall costs by 20-30 percent despite the additional costs for the return elements and the testing and maintenance of the engine. It is reported that although the plan was not communicated to the public until 2015, work on the project has been ongoing since 2010.
