Sean Ronald Hill (born February 14, 1970 in Duluth , Minnesota ) is a former American ice hockey player who played 925 games for the Canadiens de Montréal , Mighty Ducks of Anaheim , Ottawa Senators , Carolina Hurricanes , St. Louis Blues , Florida Panthers , New York Islanders and Minnesota Wild played in the National Hockey League on the position of defender . Hill celebrated his greatest career success, who competed with the United States national team in the 1992 Winter Olympics, in the service of the Canadiens de Montréal by winning the Stanley Cup in 1993 .
Career
Sean Hill began his career as a hockey player in the team of the University of Wisconsin-Madison , for which he was active from 1988 to 1991 and with which he won the championship of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association in the 1989/90 season. During his university days he was selected in the eighth round of the 1988 NHL Entry Draft as a total of 167 players by the Canadiens de Montréal . For Montréal, the defender as well as for their farm team from the American Hockey League , the Fredericton Canadiens , made his professional ice hockey debut in the playoffs of the 1990/91 season . After he was used almost exclusively in the farm team in the following season, he was part of the Montréals team in the 1992/93 season , which won the prestigious Stanley Cup .
On June 24, 1993, Hill was selected in the Expansion Draft by the newly formed Mighty Ducks of Anaheim . On October 8, 1993, he scored the first hit in franchise history of the Mighty Ducks when they were defeated by the Detroit Red Wings 2: 7 in the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim . Hill scored a total of seven goals in 68 games for the Californians and prepared 20. He then moved to the Ottawa Senators after a year . With these he stayed for three seasons before he was given to the Carolina Hurricanes on November 18, 1997 in exchange for Chris Murray . After his contract had not been extended, the American signed on July 1, 2000 as a free agent with the St. Louis Blues , but returned to the Hurricanes at the beginning of the 2001/02 season . With the team from North Carolina , he failed this season in the playoff final for the Stanley Cup at the Detroit Red Wings. He himself contributed significantly to reaching the finals with four goals and assists in the playoffs.
On July 15, 2004, Hill received a contract with the Florida Panthers as a free agent . Since the following season failed due to the lockout , he did not play a single game in the 2004/05 season . After resumption of play in the NHL for the 2005/06 season , he stood for one year each for the Florida Panthers, New York Islanders and Minnesota Wild on the ice. On April 20, 2007, he was given a 20-game ban from using a prohibited substance. This made him the first NHL player to violate its own anti-doping program. He then went to Europe, where he received a contract with the newly promoted EHC Biel from the National League A for the 2008/09 season . At the end of the season, the 1992 Olympian ended his career at the age of 39.
International
For the USA Hill took part in the 1990 World Junior Championships , the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville and the 1994 World Cup.
