The Stade Demba Diop is a football stadium in the Senegalese capital Dakar . It is the home ground of the local soccer clubs US Ouakam , US Gorée and ASC Xam-Xam and seats 30,000.

Geographical location

The stadium area is located in the south of the Sicap-Liberté district . The main entrance is at the intersection of Avenue du Président Habib Bourguiba and Rue Abebe Bikila .

To the west of the stadium is the Marius Ndiaye Stadium , a multi-purpose hall that is mainly used for basketball ( Women's African Basketball Championship 2007 or African Basketball Championship 2017 ).

history

In 1963 the stadium was opened by President Léopold Sédar Senghor . The facility is used for various events. The first African Athletics Championships were held here in 1979. In 1992 it was named after the Minister for Youth and Sports, Demba Diop, who was assassinated in 1967 .
