Johann Schütz (judge)
Johann Schütz (born February 27, 1913 in Kirchehrenbach , Forchheim district ; † February 25, 2010 ) was a German lawyer and legal scholar .
Life
From 1933, Johann Schütz studied law and political science at the University of Erlangen . After being drafted into the Wehrmacht and returning from captivity, he passed the second state examination in law and joined the judicial administration of the Free State of Bavaria in 1947. Schütz was a judge at the Bamberg District Court and Bamberg Regional Court , then First Public Prosecutor in Coburg and Senior Public Prosecutor at the Bamberg Higher Regional Court . In 1960 he was at the University of Erlangen with a thesis from the Criminal Procedure Law to Dr. iur. PhD .
On June 1, 1965, he was appointed President of the Würzburg Regional Court , and six months later he was appointed Public Prosecutor General in Bamberg. In particular, he had to do with the extra-parliamentary opposition in the time of the 68 movement ("prison camp" in Ebrach and "storming the district office" in Bamberg). He was particularly committed to the next generation of lawyers and was head of the legal trainee working group of the LG Bamberg.
In 1970 he became president of the Bamberg Higher Regional Court . In 1978 he retired as a judge, nevertheless he taught criminal law , criminal procedure law and German legal history as an honorary professor at the University of Bayreuth until he was 88 .
He published numerous articles, in particular on legal historical topics such as the judiciary in the time of National Socialism and the establishment of a constitutional judiciary in the Bamberg Higher Regional Court district after 1945.
Since 1933 he was a member of the Catholic student association KDSt.V. Gothia Erlangen in the Cartell Association (CV) . In 2008 he was able to receive the extremely rare 150-semester volume of the connection.

- 1981: Great Cross of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany
- 2001: Faculty medal from the law department of the University of Bayreuth
- 2004: Medal for services to the Bavarian Justice for his research work on the roots of Bamberg's legal history and for his engagement with the justice system in the Third Reich
