Emmit King (born March 24, 1959 in Bessemer ) is a former American athlete who specialized in the 100-meter run .
He reached the peak of his career at the 1983 World Championships in Helsinki . In the 4 x 100 meter relay , he won the title together with Willie Gault , Calvin Smith and Carl Lewis . The American quartet achieved a world record with their winning time of 37.86 s. In addition, King won the bronze medal in the 100-meter run in a time of 10.24 s behind his teammates Lewis and Smith.
King was nominated twice as a member of the US relay for the Olympic Games (1984 and 1988), but was not used. He attended the University of Alabama .
