The women's javelin at the 1983 World Athletics Championships took place on August 12 and 13, 1983 in Helsinki , Finland .

22 athletes from 17 countries took part in the competition. The gold medal went to the Finn Tiina Lillak with 70.82 m, silver went to the Briton Fatima Whitbread with 69.14 m, and the bronze medal went to the reigning European champion Anna Verouli from Greece with 65.72 m.

qualification

August 12, 1983

22 athletes competed in two groups to qualify. The qualification distance was at least 62.00 m in order to move directly into the final. Ten athletes made this mark or threw on, they are highlighted in light blue. The remaining throwers who were allowed to take part in the final - the number of athletes should be at least twelve - are those with the highest thrown distance below the qualification distance, they are highlighted in light green. At least 60.98 m had to be achieved.
