Karin Smith

Karin Smith ( Karin Kiefer Smith; born August 4, 1955 in Fürstenfeldbruck ) is a former American javelin thrower .

At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, she was eighth. In 1980 the uS boycott prevented participation in the Olympic Games in Moscow.

In 1981 she won silver at the Universiade and was third at the World Athletics Cup in Rome . At the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 1983 she came in tenth and at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles in eighth place.

At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul and at the 1991 World Cup in Tokyo, she was eliminated from the qualification.

She was US champion seven times (1980, 1981, 1983, 1984, 1987, 1990, 1991). Starting for California Polytechnic State University , she became NCAA champion in 1982 . She set her personal best of 64.78 m on August 10, 1980 in Cologne .
