Friedrich Wellauer

Friedrich Wellauer (born on May 16, 1837 in Weingarten TG ; died on December 14, 1906 in Muralto ) was a Swiss dentist and a founding member of the Swiss Odontological Society.

Career

Friedrich Wellauer was born as the son of Johannes and Barbara (née Kradolfer) and grew up in modest circumstances. First he learned the trade of barber before he became a craft surgeon and finally received further training as a dentist. Wellauer was involved in a group of commercial dentists who had set themselves the goal of professionalizing the dental profession and achieving legal equality with human medicine. In 1886 Wellauer founded the Swiss Odontological Society (today: Swiss Dental Society SSO ). Two years later, the company achieved that the Federal Council upgraded the dental profession to the medical profession. In 1867 he married Wilhelmine Bertha Hausammann.
