Anna Verouli

Anna Verouli ( Greek Άννα Βερούλη , born November 13, 1956 in Kavala ) is a former Greek javelin thrower .

Career

In 1981 Anna Verouli surpassed the 60-meter mark for the first time. At the European Championships in Athens in 1982, Antje Kempe from the GDR was in the lead with 67.94 meters until the fifth round . Then Anna Verouli achieved a new personal best with 70.02 meters. She won gold ahead of Kempe and her compatriot Sofia Sakorafa . The two medals were the only medals for the host country at these European championships.

A year later at the World Championships in Helsinki in 1983 , Tiina Lillak (FIN) won another javelin thrower from the host country. Behind Fatima Whitbread (GBR), Anna Verouli finished third with 65.72 meters and won the only medal for Greece at this World Cup.

Anna Verouli improved her best over 70.02 meters in 1982 and 70.90 meters in 1983 to 72.70 meters in 1984. At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , she finished 13th in qualification. She tested positive for nandrolone and had to in 1985 because of pause the doping lock. In 1986 she started again and was tenth at the European Championships in Stuttgart with 57.06 meters . Although she continued to throw until the nineties, she never reached the level of performance of the years 1982 to 1984. Her best placement was 8th place at the European Championships in 1990 in Split .

With a height of 1.66 m, her competition weight was 75 kg.
