Linda Stahl (born October 2, 1985 in Steinheim ) is a former German javelin thrower . Her greatest successes are winning the European Championships in Barcelona 2010 , winning the bronze medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and winning the title at the U23 European Championships in Debrecen in 2007 .

Life

Linda Stahl studied medicine from 2006 to 2014 , first in Münster and then at the University of Cologne . She was supported in this by the funding opportunities of the "dual career" . In 2020 she received her PhD from the University of Witten-Herdecke with a thesis on sports injuries. med. PhD .

Linda Stahl started for TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen in 2003 . There she trained with Katharina Molitor at Helge Zöllkau . Before that she was active in her hometown club LG Lippe-Süd.

At the 2007 World Championships in Osaka she threw in the qualification in the first attempt with 62.80 m best performance and came in eighth place in the final with a width of 61.03 m. In the 2008 season she threw 62.34 m on January 17, 2008 in Cologne and showed a good early form in the Olympic season. In the further course she had back problems ( herniated disc in spring), so that, despite constant performance, she missed the Olympic norm of 60.50 meters by two centimeters during the qualification period. At the German Championships in 2008 she was third with a width of 60.18 m. Only after the qualification period for the Olympic Games in Beijing had expired did she throw the javelin 66.06 m, improving her personal best by over three meters. Although she moved to third place in the annual world best list behind Barbora Špotáková and Christina Obergföll - only Marija Abakumowa and Steffi Nerius sat in front of her during the season, she could no longer qualify for the Olympic Games.

In the 2009 world championship year, she exceeded the world championship standard of 61 meters several times early in the season and thus qualified for the world championships . There she was the best German in the qualifying round with 63.86 m in the first attempt, and in the final, Stahl took sixth place with a width of 63.23 m.

On July 29, 2010, Linda Stahl became European Champion at the 2010 European Championships in Barcelona with a width of 66.81 m . At the 2011 World Championships , she was unable to compete due to an injury.

On June 7, 2012, Linda Stahl exceeded the Olympic standard with 62.33 m at the athletics meeting in Rhede and thus secured herself the nomination for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. At the European Championships in 2012 she was third with 63.69 m. At the Olympic Games she won the bronze medal with 64.91 m behind the Olympic champion Barbora Špotáková from the Czech Republic and Christina Obergföll. With 64.78 m, she finished fourth at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow .

In 2015 Linda Stahl reached tenth place at the World Championships in Beijing .

In 2016 she became vice European champion in Amsterdam and came 11th despite an injury at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro .

On August 18, 2016, Stahl ended her career as a javelin thrower in the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Stadium .

On February 28, 2012, the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament elected steel to the 15th Federal Assembly for the election of the eleventh Federal President on March 18, 2012 at the suggestion of the SPD . It was also elected in the same way for the 16th Federal Assembly for the election of the twelfth Federal President on February 12, 2017 .

Functions

In March 2018, Stahl was elected to the Presidium of the Neuss sports sponsorship association “Partner for Sport and Education” (PSB) and, as Vice President, is to maintain close contact with the active players.
