career path

Athletic career

Athletics career

Molitor started athletics in her hometown at TV Bedburg. Your youth trainer Franz Inden ensured a varied training. In June 1997 Katharina Molitor achieved a width of 52 meters when throwing the ball , with which she still leads the best lists in the Cologne district for the AW14 and W15 students. The Rhinelander also demonstrated her versatility at the Jugend 07 Bergheim athletics club. She led the club best list in 2000 for the female B-youth in all running disciplines as well as in four and heptathlon, her performances at that time in the throwing disciplines were even leading in the women's class.

Katharina Molitor moved to Bayer Leverkusen in 2003 , where she specialized in javelin throwing under Helge Zöllkau . In 2005 she was second behind Annika Suthe at the U23 European Championships with 57.01 m . In 2007 she took sixth place at the Universiade in Bangkok with 58.19 m. In March 2008 Molitor was second in the Winter Throw European Cup with 58.26 m. On May 24, 2008, she improved her best in Halle to 61.74 m. Because, unlike Linda Stahl, she twice exceeded the qualifying distance for the Olympic Games, Molitor was nominated as the third German javelin thrower, alongside Christina Obergföll and Steffi Nerius , for the 2008 Olympic Games , although she was only fourth behind Stahl at the German Championships. In Beijing it came in seventh.

On June 25, 2010 Molitor achieved a new personal best of 64.53 m in the Leverkusen stadium at home. She clearly exceeded the required European Championship standard of 61.00 meters and placed fifth on the European annual best list, directly behind Christina Obergföll. At the German Championships on July 18, 2010 in Braunschweig, the javelin thrower successfully prevailed against Christina Obergföll and Linda Stahl as the new German champion with 64.27 m. This success also meant participating in the 2010 European Championships in Barcelona , where she finished fourth with 63.81 m.

At the World Championships 2011 in Daegu Molitor was fifth with 64.32 m. Three weeks earlier she had achieved a new personal best of 64.67 m in Kassel. At the European Championships in 2012 she was also fifth with a width of 60.99 m. At the Olympic Games in London in 2012 Molitor reached 62.89 m, taking sixth place. At the 2013 World Championships , she finished 13th in qualification.

In July 2015, she increased her best performance at the meeting in Lucerne to 66.40 m. On August 30, 2015, Molitor threw a distance of 67.69 m in the last litter of the entire competition with a personal best at the World Championships in Beijing, winning her first international title. With this distance she was also the best German javelin thrower of 2015.

Although Molitor was second in the German championships and fourth in the European championships in 2016 , she was not nominated for the Olympic Games in Rio because Christina Obergföll had two better distances this year and Linda Stahl qualified second in the European Championship and Christin Hussong as German champion were. She therefore applied for an injunction against the DOSB . Such was rejected on July 18, 2016 by the Frankfurt am Main regional court .

In 2017, Molitor became European team champion in Lille, northern France , and took 4th place in the javelin throw . In Erfurt she won the German Championships . The World Championships in London closed Molitor down to 7th place. In the qualification she had thrown a season best of 65.37 m, a distance that would have been enough for bronze in the final.

In 2018, Molitor and the team took 1st place at the European Winter Throwing Cup in Leiria , and 3rd in the individual. At the European Championships in Berlin in 2018 , she failed to qualify. Then she ended her javelin throwing career.

Katharina Molitor had a competition weight of 79 kg with a height of 1.83 m.
