Ball throw

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The ball throwing is an athletic discipline in children and youth athletics . It is the first throwing discipline in children's athletics before it is replaced in the older age groups by the more demanding disciplines of javelin , discus , hammer throw and shot put . The throwing ball does not count towards the throws, as a throwing motion is used.

The ball is thrown with the outstretched arm after a run-up whose length is not specified. If the seven centimeter wide throw line is touched or exceeded, the throw is void.

Throwing device

A distinction is made between ball and bat.

ball

The ball - also known as throwing ball - is a leather or rubber ball with a weight of 200 grams. Depending on the material, the size is slightly different. The ball is thrown in the male and female age groups of 12 to 15 year olds. However, since the ball throw is replaced by the shot put in the all- around matches from the 14-year-old youth, the ball throw is mostly limited to children up to 13 years old.

Bat ball

The - smaller, harder - hit ball is also made of leather or rubber, whereby leather balls are usually thrown. It weighs between 70 and 85 grams. Children up to the age of 11 throw him with him. The female youth from 12 to 15 years of age are allowed to throw the hit ball, but this is unusual because the ball is thrown in a three-way fight or the ball throw is replaced by the shot put.

Width measurement

In contrast to all other athletic throwing disciplines, ball throwing is not measured to the nearest centimeter. The point of impact on the court is determined by a judge with a glance. Given the relatively low weight of the ball, the search for impact marks on grass or asphalt would usually be in vain. The width is then read perpendicular to the tape measure or the measuring line and rounded off to the next half meter. The measuring tape is at right angles to the throwing line. It is therefore advisable to throw as straight as possible, since a lateral deviation from the throwing line is a wasted distance.

Record distances

The German Athletics Association does not keep records or best lists for throwing the ball. Therefore there are no German records in this discipline. However, some state associations and numerous district associations have the ball throw in their record lists. As an example of possible distances here are the records in ball throwing of the North Rhine Athletics Association: age group M15: 102.0 m; M14: 88.5 m; W15: 65.0 m; W14: 64.5 m (as of December 2016)
