Kelsey-Lee Barber gained her first international experience at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow , where she won the bronze medal behind her compatriot Kimberley Mickle and the South African Sunette Viljoen with a width of 62.95 m . The following year she took part in the World Championships in Beijing for the first time, but retired there with 60.18 m in qualification . In 2016 she represented Australia at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , but could not qualify for the final there with 55.25 m . At the World Championships in London a year later, she made it to the finals , where she was tenth with a throw on 60.76 m. In 2018 she won the silver medal behind her compatriot Kathryn Mitchell at the Commonwealth Games in her native Gold Coast with 63.89 m . In addition, she took fifth place at the Continental Cup in Ostrava with 59.32 m. The following year she won the Oceania Championships in Townsville with a new championship record of 65.61 m. She celebrated the most important success of her career to date with winning the title at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha.
In 2017 and 2019, Barber became the Australian javelin champion. She completed studies in sports coaching and sports science at the University of Canberra . In 2018 she married her long-time trainer Mike Barber and has started under his name ever since.
