Kathryn Mitchell (born July 10, 1982 in Hamilton , Victoria ) is an Australian javelin thrower .

Athletic career

Kathryn Mitchell gained her first international experience at the 2003 Summer Universiade in Daegu , where she took twelfth place with a width of 52.05 m. In 2006 she took part for the first time in the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne and reached there with 55.22 m rank six and four years later at the Games in New Delhi with a throw on 54.25 m fifth. In 2012 she qualified for the Olympic Games in London , where she finished ninth with 59.46 m in the final . The following year she was fifth at the World Championships in Moscow with 63.77 m and fourth at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with 62.59 m.

In 2015 she took part again in the World Championships in Beijing , but was eliminated there with 61.04 m in the qualification . At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , she again made it to the final , where she finished sixth with a width of 64.36 m. For this she was eliminated from the qualification at the World Championships in London in 2017 with 57.42 m . In the following year, she won her fourth Commonwealth Games in the local Gold Coast with a new Oceania and player record of 68.92 m and thus ranked seventh on the all-time world best list (as of 2019).

In 2008 and 2018, Mitchell became the Australian javelin champion.
