Xu Demei

Xu Demei (born May 23, 1967 in Zhejiang Province ) is a former Chinese javelin thrower .

After two silver medals at the Asian Championships in 1989 and the Asian Games in 1990, Xu Demei won the javelin at the Asian Championships in 1991. At the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in 1991 , Xu Demei threw in the first attempt of the final with 68.78 meters personal best. The German world record holder Petra Meier came very close to her with 68.68 meters, but couldn't beat the Chinese. With this, Xu Demei surprisingly won the world title. Exactly a week earlier, Huang Zhihong had won the first throwing title for a Chinese woman in the shot put.

At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, ​​Xu Demei threw 59.98 meters in qualification and was fourteenth unable to qualify for the final.

At a height of 1.74 m, Xu had a competition weight of 75 kg.
