In the early 20th century, the station was built, the station settlement and the village grew up together, and the station was in 1905 in honor of the statesman Vasily Tatishchev in Tatischtschewo renamed.
On August 1, 1928, Meschtschanowka became the administrative seat of a newly created Rajon, which was named Tatishchevsky after the train station . Since 1960 the place has been called Tatishchevo. On July 27, 1965, it was granted urban-type settlement status.
In 1994, the secret military settlement with the camouflage name Tatishchevo-5 , which was built from 1964 to the east, was spun off as an independent settlement Swetly.
