Swetly ( Russian Све́тлый ) is a "closed" urban-type settlement in the Saratov Oblast ( Russia ) with 12,493 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The settlement is located about 30 km northwest of the Saratov Oblast Administrative Center and the right bank of the Volga in the eastern part of the Volga Heights .
As Closed administrative-territorial entity (SATO) Swetly forms the independent Stadtkreis Possjolok Swetly, of the territory of the Rajons Tatischtschewski is surrounded. Its administrative seat Tatishchevo is almost immediately to the west.
history
The place was created in 1964 as a military settlement for the strategic missile troops of the Soviet Army (Taman missile division) and initially had the code name Tatishchevo-5 after the nearby settlement. After 1990, complete secrecy was lifted, and in 1994 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement and a closed administrative-territorial structure (SATO) under its current name, from the Russian word for bright.

traffic
The railway line ( Moscow -) Michurinsk - Tambov - Saratov (stopping point at line kilometer 816 from Moscow, next station in Tatishchevo) runs south of the settlement . There also runs a regional trunk road (formerly R208), which connects Saratov via Atkarsk and Rtishchevo with Kirsanow in the neighboring Tambov Oblast , where there is a connection to the (today's) federal trunk road R208 Tambow - Penza .
