Romanowka ( Russian Рома́новка ) is an urban-type settlement in the Saratov Oblast in Russia with 7,271 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The place is about 225 km as the crow flies west of the Saratov Oblast Administrative Center on the right bank of the right Chopjor tributary Karai , just under 10 km from the border with Tambov Oblast .
Romanowka is the administrative center of the Rajons Romanowski and seat and only town of the municipality Romanowskoje gorodskoje posselenije.
history
The place was founded as Sloboda in 1680 by resettlers from what would later become the Kyiv Governorate . It quickly gained regional economic importance and at the end of the 18th century became the seat of a Volost des Ujesds Balaschow of the Saratov governorate .
On July 23, 1928 Romanowka became the administrative seat of a newly created Rajons named after him. In 1944 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement.

Romanowka has a train station at kilometer 160 of the Tambov - Balashov - Kamyshin railway line opened in 1894 . A regional road leads into the settlement, which follows the railway line from the town of Balashov, which is almost 40 km southeast of the Borisoglebsk - Saratov branch of the federal trunk road R22 .
