Sennoi ( Russian Сенно́й ) is an urban-type settlement in the Saratov Oblast in Russia with 6675 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

The place is about 100 km as the crow flies northeast of the Saratov Oblast Administrative Center not far from the left bank of the right Volga tributary Tereschka .

Sennoi belongs to Wolski Rajon and is located a good 30 km west-northwest of its Wolsk administrative center on the right bank of the Volga . It is the seat of the "municipal entity" Sennoje munizipalnoje obrasowanije with the status of a township (gorodskoje posselenije), which also includes the village Klyuchi (7 km east) and the settlement Karjer (2.5 km west).

history

The place was built from the late 19th century as a settlement around the railway station Sennaya at the track Atkarsk  - Volsk, which went into operation 1895th With the construction of the route ( Svyashsk  -) Syzran  - Saratov - Stalingrad (today Volgograd) during the Second World War in 1942, Sennaya became a crossing station . At the same time, the Bagai-Baranowka military airfield, which is still in operation today (as of 2018), was built immediately south of the village (after the Bagai tributary on the left there and the southwestern village of Baranowka ; unofficially, the airfield is also often referred to as Sennaya ) .

As a result, the village grew rapidly and in 1957 received urban-type settlement status.

Sennaya railway station

The Sennaya station in the settlement is an important junction (with subsequent marshalling yard ) of the Syzran - Saratov - Ilowlja routes (near Volgograd; route kilometers 168) and Atkarsk - Wolsk - Pugachev (route kilometers 197). The former has been electrified since 1992 from the direction of Saratov and since 2008 from the direction of Sysran .

The federal trunk road R228 runs through Sennoi , which also follows the right side of the Volga and connects Syzran via Saratov with Volgograd.
