Krasny Kut ( Russian Красный Кут ) is a city in Saratov Oblast ( Russia ) with 14,416 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located about 120 km southeast of the Oblast capital Saratov on Jeruslan , a left tributary of the Volga .
Krasny Kut is the administrative center of the raion of the same name .
The city is located on the Saratov – Astrakhan railway , from which a branch line branches off via Novousensk to Alexandrow Gai .
history
Krasny Kut was founded in 1837 by resettlers from the Kharkov Governorate . The place name stands for beautiful corner in the southern Russian dialect . In 1966 the place received city rights.

Culture, education and sights
The Trinity Church ( Троицкая церковь / Troitskaja zerkow) from the 19th century has been preserved in the city.
On August 7, 1961, the cosmonaut German Titov landed in Krasny Kut district after he had carried out the second orbital space flight in history with the spaceship Vostok 2 . There is an obelisk at this point today.
In Krasny Kut there is a civil flying school, which includes an airfield .

Krasny Kut is the center of an agricultural area; there are predominantly companies in the food industry, there are also railway workshops.
