history

overview

The first written mention of Grissenbach was in 1311. There the place was mentioned as villa Crissinbach .

Around 1790 two chapels were built in the village, one for each denomination.

1888: Backes Ost in the parcel on the Sinnerswiese is built.

Since 1907, Grissenbach has been able to independently supply itself with spring water from the Hellsbach through an elevated tank in the Hellsbachtal using a water pipe . However, this was no longer needed in 1972 after the completion of the Obernau dam and was therefore taken out of service after 65 years. Today Grissenbach is supplied by the Siegen-Wittgenstein Water Association . The drinking water is transported from the treatment plant in Dreis-Tiefenbach via its transport lines to Deuz and Walpersdorf via a transport line, and from there it is distributed to the surrounding villages through the municipal pipeline network. Another aspect of the water management in Grissenbach was the meadow construction, in which so-called Rieselwiesen were created.

Backes West was built in 1927 .

The Grissenbacher Badeanstalt then opened in June 1929 - although it is no longer in operation today and serves as a fire fighting pond.

In 1955, Iron Age ceramic fragments and Stone Age artefacts were discovered in Netphen - Grissenbach and in Deuz on the Auf der Noll hill . Later excavations discovered a burial ground.

Until the end of 1968, the then independent municipality of Grissenbach belonged to the Office of Netphen and was incorporated into the larger municipality of Netphen on January 1, 1969 as part of the municipal reorganization . Since 2000 the place has been a district of Netphen.

The village community, culture and sports promotion association Grissenbach eV (DKS Grissenbach) was founded on July 22, 1991.

On November 14, 1992, the DKS Grissenbach carried out its first clean landscape campaign , in which rubbish was removed from nature. Since then, this action has been repeated every few years, most recently on April 16, 2016.

On June 29th, 2008 the association Grissenbach Aktiv e. V. founded.

On June 22nd, 2009, a camera team from the TV station WDR was in Grissenbach and made recordings for the Mittendrin report of the program local time Südwestfalen .

On March 11, 2011, a Rothaarsteig lounger purchased by the DKS was set up on the Heinenberg.

From 8-10 In July 2011 a big celebration took place on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of Grissenbach, which was celebrated with a standing pageant. In addition, the Festschrift Grissenbacher Lesebuch was published, which deals with the history and special features of Grissenbach.

Since 2013, all 42 banks in the Grissenbach district have been looked after by bank mentors and maintained once a year. Each bank has been assigned a sponsor.

On April 23, 2016, a new seating group was set up in front of Nollen , which was donated by the DKS Grissenbach .

From July 1, 2016 until probably autumn 2016: Renovation of the dilapidated Backes Ost (including renewal of the roof structure, exposure of the cobblestones, ...) by the DKS Grissenbach . The Backes is expected to be presented to the public in autumn as part of a Backes Festival.

On July 24, 2016, the village community, culture and sports promotion association Grissenbach eV (DKS Grissenbach) organized a festival in the center of the village to celebrate its 25th anniversary. On this special occasion, a 72-page chronicle of the DKS Grissenbach , limited to 200 copies , was published by Wilfried Lerchstein.

Attractions

Sights in town and in the surrounding area include:

The Protestant half-timbered chapel

The Protestant half-timbered chapel (previously used as a chapel school) was built around 1790 just a few meters away from the Catholic chapel school. Up until 1901, both chapel schools were used for teaching children, after which lessons took place in a school building on the outskirts of Nenkersdorf. From then on, both chapel schools were only used for church events. In 1965/66 the half-timbered chapel underwent extensive renovations and was given an extension using oak from Obernau , because many people had to be relocated due to the construction of the Obernautalsperre , and as a result, numerous oak beams were present after the half-timbered houses in Obernau were demolished . In the tower of the chapel hangs a bell that comes from the former Knebel bell foundry in Afholderbach .

The Backes Ost

The Backes Ost , which is on the Vorn parcel on the Sinnerwiese , is a bakery on the outskirts of Grissenbach in the direction of Nenkersdorf. It was built in 1888, but is currently no longer in use because the Backes was falling apart. In May 2016, the Sinnerwiese Grissenbach Backes cooperative dissolved and made the Backes available to the DKS Grissenbach for renovation and later use. A new roof structure was erected on the bakehouse, which is under monument protection, and the old pavement in front of the bakery, as well as a staircase leading to victory, were exposed. In addition, the back was given a new paint job. On June 30, 2018, after the completion of all renovation work, the baking was presented to the public as part of a baking festival.

The Backes West

The Backes West in Grissenbach

The Backes West is a bakery in the Grissenbachtal. It was built in 1927 and can be easily recognized today by its characteristic red brick walls. Even today it is used for B. baked Schanzenbrot on special occasions such as a party. Occasionally pizza since 2003.

Siegerland savings framework

The world-famous Siegerland economy framework can also be admired in Grissenbach: On the Siegtalstraße there are two clearly recognizable examples: the Schöerlersch Hus and the Schrinnersch Hus. When building a house, only those timbers were allowed that support the structure, but decorative trusses were forbidden. There is an information board near the street on Siegtalstraße.

The Nenkersdorf watermill

The Nenkersdorf watermill is a historic, fully preserved and functional watermill near Nenkersdorf. It was built around the year 1240 and is open to visitors on some days of the year (such as the German Milling Day ), or by appointment.

The Obernautalsperre

The Obernautalsperre is a drinking water dam with a capacity of around 14.9 million cubic meters, which is located east of the Brauersdorf district of Netphen . It is also used as a local recreation area. The Obernautalsperre can be reached from Grissenbach in a northerly direction via the Sterndill . Once you have reached the ridge, there is a short, steep descent to Nauholz and you are close to the reservoir.

Traffic and walking

Grissenbach is located on the road connecting Deuz and Feudingen ( called Siegtalstraße in Grissenbach ), which belongs to Bad Laasphe . The next train stations are Siegen and Weidenau . In the past, a railway line also ran through the neighboring Werth valley. Bus traffic is taken over by VWS . The bus lines L167 and SB5 go through Grissenbach . A widely ramified network of economic and hiking trails leads through the district of Grissenbach, including two Rothaarsteig feeders and, in the future, the Natursteig Sieg .

Social facilities

As social or public facilities there is a community center (which was renovated between 2009 and 2011), two football fields, three children's playgrounds, a cemetery and the volunteer fire department .

Events

For several years now, the Grissenbach autumn market has been held every year on October 3rd . From 8-10 In July 2011 there was also a big celebration on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of Grissenbach. (See also the information in the history section) .
