history

The place was first mentioned shortly before 1300: A document dated July 26, 1328 names the place as Nuboldysa . In 1643, according to a list of properties, all eight house owners practiced the profession of charcoal burner. From 1806 to 1813 the place belonged to the "canton Netphen" in the Grand Duchy of Berg ; The “Mayor of Netphen” was created under the Prussian administration that followed. From 1844 Nauholz belonged to the office of Netphen . In 1925, 67 of the 133 inhabitants were Catholic and 66 Protestant. A post office, a volunteer fire brigade and an electricity supply for the Netphen association were set up. The community council consisted of seven members; Holderberg was the community leader. Nauholz belonged to the parish of Netphen, both Protestant and Catholic. Ore was dug in the small mine Erzvater .

In 1955 a fire station was built. In October 1964 Emil Klappert (CDU) was elected mayor and official representative. Wilhelm Höcker (CDU) was deputy.

In 1964, work began on the planned dam. The residents were not informed whether Nauholz or only Obernau would be affected by the resettlement; Strong tourism was even promised, as a result of which local residents rebuilt and renovated and invested in guest rooms and a restaurant. In the course of the construction, the places Nauholz and Obernau had to give way completely and the neighboring Brauersdorf partially, although the Nauholz area was not flooded - it was all about drinking water protection. Most of the buildings, including two hundred year old half-timbered houses, were burned down in a controlled manner in the course of fire exercises. In 1968 the place was completely dissolved and demolished. In the course of the community reform, which came into force on January 1, 1969, Nauholz became part of the new community of Netphen, but no longer existed as a settlement. The Nauholz district still exists formally. In 1971 the dam was completed.

The Nauholz forest cooperative still exists today .
