history

Walpersdorf was first mentioned in a document in 1344. On April 10, 1960 near Walpersdorf, the discovery of Neolithic tools was recorded. On July 8, 1823 a school and chapel building was inaugurated.

Until the end of 1968, the place belonged to the office of Netphen and became part of the new large community of Netphen during the municipal reorganization on January 1, 1969, and since 2000 a district.

In 2002 the St. Sebastian church in Walpersdorf burned down.

Coal pile near Walpersdorf

The last charcoal piles in the Siegerland are near Walpersdorf . In them the regionally known "Walpersdorfer charcoal" is produced in an old tradition. Oak, birch and beech wood are charred. About 1 t of charcoal is made from 4 t of wood.

Also worth seeing is the " Märzbecherwiese " nature reserve .
