The Sindernbach , also called Sinnernbach or Sinnersbach , is a 3.6 km long, eastern and orographically left tributary of the Sieg in the districts and localities of Walpersdorf and Nenkersdorf in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district in North Rhine-Westphalia .
The name of the Sindernbach is probably derived from the word Sinder + Bach = slag + Bach, i.e. slag stream.
geography
course
The Sindernbach rises in the south of the Rothaargebirge on the western roof of the Ederkopf-Lahnkopf ridge . Its source lies on the border of the Walpersdorf and Nenkersdorf districts on the western flank of the Lahnkopf ( 624.9 m ) at an altitude of 570 m above sea level. NHN . The Eisenstrasse of the Rothaargebirge runs about 200 m east of the source as part of the state road 722 and parallel to it the Rothaarsteig . Larger neighboring sources of Sindernbachquelle along this road are approximately 440 m south-southeast the Lahnquelle and 2.5 km north-northeast, the Siegquelle .
Initially, the Sindernbach flows through a wooded valley for almost 450 m in the direction of the west-south-west, and then after a small turn it flows to the west-north-west. In this part of the forest it takes up the water from the Heinrichquelle, south of the brook, through a trickle on the left. After about 750 m further stretch of the river, its first tributary joins the Birkenborn nature reserve in the Sinderbach area on the left . The Butzbach joins a little below on the right. Then the Sindernbach flows almost 500 m in a westerly direction and takes on a brook on the left, which rises in the Birkenborn nature reserve , Eckstein am Birkenborn area south above the Sindernbach . From there the Sindernbach flows a long way to the west, then another (nameless?) Small tributary joins on the right.
Shortly thereafter, the Sindernbach reaches the village of Walpersdorf and twice crosses under the L 719, there called Wittgensteiner Straße . Normally the brook would flow into the Sieg here, but it is led through a mill ditch, into which part of the Sieg water is also directed, a little southeast parallel to the Sieg, towards the southwest to Nenkersdorf , where its water is used to drive the Nenkersdorf watermill .
About 100 m west of the mill, where the Sindernbach takes a short stream on the left, it flows into the Rhine tributary Sieg in Nenkersdorf at about 363 m above sea level .
Natural allocation
The Sindernbach flows in the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33) and in the main unit Siegerland (331) through the subunit Siegerländer Rothaar-Vorhöhen (331.2) - starting from its on the western roofing of the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) the natural area Ederkopf-Lahnkopf-Ridge (333.01) belonging to the subunit Dill-Lahn-Eder-Quellgebiet (333.0) .
Catchment area and tributaries
The catchment area of the Sindernbach is 3.471 km² and mostly forested. The highest mountains in the catchment area are the Grauhain with about 638 m and the Stiegelburg with 637.8 m . The tributaries of the Sindernbach include - viewed downstream:

In addition, a trickle flows into the Sindernbach from the small Heinrichquelle.
Sindernbach tunnel
A little above Walpersdorf, part of the Sindernbach water is branched off into the 800 meter long Sindernbach tunnel. Like the Michelbachstollen, this is connected to the Siegstollen. The water of the three streams is then underground to the former location of the victory tunnel Nauholz in flowing there Obernau influx Nauholzbach passed shortly afterwards into the Obernautalsperre flows.
