Nenkersdorf watermill

The Nenkersdorf watermill is a watermill on the Sieg in Nenkersdorf . It is the only completely preserved and functional watermill in the Siegen Wittgenstein district .

location

The Nenkersdorf watermill is located on the southeast edge of the village of the same name. It is located about 730 meters (as the crow flies) southwest of the Walpersdorfer Church, 2.2 kilometers northeast of the Grissenbach town center and 3.3 kilometers northwest of the Lahnhof exclave belonging to Nenkersdorf .

history

The first documented mention of the mill dates back to 1240. Until the 14th century it belonged to the possessions of the lords of the Hainchen moated castle , but it was donated to a new owner in Nenkersdorf. The current owner family Weber is already exercising this right in the fifth generation. On June 5, 2006, the watermill was the venue for the opening event of the German Milling Day .

construction

The mill, which has three grinders, all of which can be operated by water power as well as an existing grain elevator, is equipped with an overshot water wheel. The grinders consist of two roller mills and a grist mill. The water mill is driven by the small Sindernbach and part of the Siegwasser , which flows through a small ditch that was created by an excavation carried out for the purpose of the mill.
