Law on the reorganization of the district of Siegen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The law on the reorganization of the district of Siegen of April 26, 1966, came into force on July 1, 1966 and the second law on the reorganization of the district of Siegen of November 5, 1968, came into force on January 1, 1969, are laws of the State of North Rhine -Westphalia . They contain the territorial reform in the Siegerland region in the 1960s at the municipal level. Although both laws do not have an official abbreviation, they are generally referred to as the first and second Siegerland laws.

Legislative motivation

In order to deal with the problem of the political and administrative fragmentation of the area into individual municipalities or offices , the municipal reorganization began in Siegerland in 1966, almost ten years earlier than in the rest of North Rhine-Westphalia. The concentration of industrial companies in a few municipalities meant that they were doing particularly well, while other municipalities, in which there was mainly living space, were again unable to take advantage of the upcoming infrastructure measures due to a lack of financial resources. There was also a lack of expansion space for industry. As early as the mid-1950s, the public discussion about the local reorganization began, and in 1959 an expert opinion was obtained from the Institute for Spatial Research in the Federal Institute for Regional Studies and Spatial Research , which suggested the formation of three cities.

On January 1, 1975, the area was restructured again by the Sauerland / Paderborn law , which then incorporated the cities of Hüttental and Eiserfeld into the city of Siegen.
