Location of Kreuztal in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district

Oberhees is the westernmost part of the city of Kreuztal . The village lies on the border with the Sauerland and the cities of Siegen and Freudenberg . Oberhees belonged to the latter until the municipal reorganization on January 1, 1969. Because of this history, the Protestant residents of the majority Protestant denomination still belong to the Oberholzklau parish. Oberhees was first mentioned in a document in 1461.

In terms of landscape, Oberhees is topographically limited on three sides at the end of the Heestal. To the east, the valley through which the Hees meanders falls towards the Kreuztal. Up to the tree line, the village is surrounded by fields and meadows which are used for agriculture . The “culture” of the Hauberges , a special form of forest management organized on a cooperative basis , is still very much practiced here. In the middle of the village is the village community center, which is available for Sunday school , meetings of the forest cooperative or private celebrations.

Due to the quiet location and numerous paths through woods and meadows, many weekenders come to Oberhees.

The culturally-linguistic Moselle-Franconian Oberhees is not far from the bundle of isoglosses from the Uerdinger and Benrath lines , which together form the language border to the neighboring, Low German- speaking Sauerland and at the same time the watershed to the Ruhr catchment area .
