history

Castle Holdinghausen from the start was the seat of the sex of Holdinghausen to which the village Littfeld had to pay his taxes and was conducted under the name Holdinghausen. In 1079 Holdinghausen was first mentioned in a document as "Haldengkusen". In 1318 the lands of the Deutzer St. Heribertus monastery were lent to the von Holdinghausen family. Approx. In 1345 the construction of the castle began, which existed until the end of the 17th century.

In 1447 the lords of Holdinghausen already had considerable property in Littfeld, and from 1578 they began to expand it. In 1579, thanks to the efforts of Hans von Holdinghausen, his wife Margarete von Schönhals and their son Heinrich von Holdinghausen, the estate reached its present size. With the death of the last male from Holdinghausen in 1684, Johann Phillip von Holdinghausen, the estate fell to Maria Rosina von Holdinghausen and thus to Phillip von der Hees, with whom she was married. In 1785 the property was sold and, heavily in debt, von der Hees ceded the land to the main creditor Brabek; However, the latter sold it to Baron Lothar von Fürstenberg just a year later. In 1802 the lands and settlements were given a new official name: Burg Holdinghausen. In 1936 the property was finally sold on for the last time. Von Fürstenberg passed the estate on to Reinhold Woeste. The lands are still owned by this family today.

Until the municipal reorganization , the place belonged to the Ferndorf office . On January 1, 1969, Burgholdinghausen was incorporated into the newly founded town of Kreuztal.
