The law for the reorganization of the Oberbergisches Kreis was promulgated on June 2, 1969 and restructured the communities in what was then the Oberbergischer Kreis . Mainly border corrections took place, but new communities also emerged.

Due to the Cologne Act , the Oberbergische Kreis was enlarged on January 1, 1975 and restructured again.
