history
First mention
The place was mentioned for the first time in a document in 1447 in the "invoice of the rent master Johann von Flamersfeld ".
The spelling of the first mention was Berchhusen .
Marienberghausen is considered the "birthplace" of the opera Hansel and Gretel , which was composed and performed for the first time by Engelbert Humperdinck . In Marienberghausen a street and a memorial commemorates the composer.
Engelbert Humperdinck often spent vacation days with an aunt in the small village of Wolfscharre near Marienberghausen. Contrary to all accounts, however, he did not compose the famous fairytale opera in Marienberghausen, but largely in Frankfurt. In Wolfscharre and Marienberghausen, however, a few smaller compositions were created.
Incorporation
On July 1, 1969, Marienberghausen was merged with Nümbrecht and parts of Waldbröl to form the new municipality of Homburg . At the request of the new municipality, the name was soon changed to Nümbrecht .
