history

First mention

In 1490 the place was mentioned for the first time as Distelkamp, namely "Differenzen Homburg - Berg".

Coffee drinker linden tree in Distelkamp around 1875

Coffee drinker Linde

The house was built around 1675 and later expanded. At that time it served as a stopover and rest house for shepherds, cattle dealers and merchants. The dealers came from the Siegerland, the Märkisches Kreis and the Wildenburger Land. They moved from their hometowns to Nümbrecht, where a cattle trading station and cattle scale, which was behind the Heckmann house, was operated.

In 1725 the house received a "new building" on the south side. The linden tree should have been as old as the house and the barn. It received its striking shape into the "coffee drinker linden tree" through artful pruning over several generations. This gave the linden a kind of platform or terrace in the treetop. There was a couple of seats and a table to enjoy a cup of coffee high up in the air. In the community of Nümbrecht there used to be some of these artistically grown linden trees. However, storms have made these very rare. Today nothing is left of the Distelkamper linden tree.

The house was victim of a fire in 2012. It was extensively renovated and largely true to the original and is registered as a monument. The dilapidated barn was demolished in early 2015.
