Benroth (dialect Bennert ) is a district of Nümbrecht in the Oberbergischer Kreis in southern North Rhine-Westphalia within the administrative district of Cologne ( Germany ). The place is divided into two parts, several buildings in the southern part of the place belong to the town of Waldbröl .
Location and description
The place is about 5 km south of the center of the municipality Nümbrecht as the crow flies. Neighboring towns are Harscheid in the north, Berkenroth in the east, Pulvermühle and Propach and Neuroth in the south and Lindscheider Mühle in the west.
history
Settlement and first mention
Settlement took place from 900 to 1200.
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1447 , namely in an "invoice from Joh. Van Flamersfelt , Saynischer Rentmeister zu Homburg " (HStA Wiesbaden ). The spelling of the first mention was Benrode . The name means clearing of Benno; Short for Bernhard (the bear strength). According to the Fuder-Haber-Zettel (feed oat list) of the Marienberghausen chapel district, the place was inhabited by 12 families / farm owners in 1579.

Benroth bears the title "Ecological Village of the Future". The ecological remodeling through small and large measures (e.g. wetlands , dry stone walls , hedges, desettlement) can be seen in the appearance of the village. The approximately one-hour walk ("eco mile") through the village provides an insight into the project.

A section of the Graf-Engelbert-Weg goes from Wiehl - Drabenderhöhe - Oberbach - Herftenrath via Nümbrecht - Kurtenbach - Niederbreidenbach - Grunewald - Lindscheid - Benroth - Berkenroth via Waldbröl - Geilenkausen - Bladersbach , on Galgenberg and the "Drei Eichen" the Windecker Hochgericht of the Middle Ages, over the Nutscheid ridge via Höhnrath to Windeck -Schladern (S-Bahn stop).
