In 1326/1335 (?) The place was mentioned as "Oudehrußen" for the first time in a document in connection with the "waiver of Sophie v. Heusden, Mrs. v. Safferberg, on their inheritance in Oudehrußen and Hedinhusen ”in favor of Count Rainald van Geldern .
In 1447 the place was mentioned as "Odenkusen", in 1579 the name "Oedenkausen" and in 1603 "Zu Öekusen". On the land map from 1831 it is referred to as "Oedinghausen".
