The law on the reorganization of communities in the Jülich district was promulgated on June 28, 1969 and restructured some communities in the Jülich district . 10 municipalities were incorporated into the city of Linnich and 8 more were merged into 3 new municipalities. In addition, the Linnich office was dissolved.
On January 1, 1972, the Aachen Act resulted in a further restructuring of communities in the Jülich district, including those that had only been formed in 1969. The previous Jülich district (January 1, 1939– September 30, 1969: Jülich district) was dissolved and the towns and municipalities were assigned to the new Düren district.
