Güsten is a district of Jülich in the Düren district , North Rhine-Westphalia .

geography

location

Welldorf is to the west, Serrest to the north, Rödingen (municipality of Titz ) to the east and the Hambach open-cast mine with Sophienhöhe to the south . The development of Güsten and Welldorf merges almost seamlessly.

history

It has been proven that the Prüm Abbey received Güsten as a gift in 870. To protect the property, a castle was built in Güsten , which was named Harffenburg after its owner, the von Harff family . However, nothing is left of it. Now known as Castle Guesten known plant is a manor house from the modern era and is used as a riding school.

On July 1, 1969, Güsten was incorporated into the neighboring community of Welldorf . On January 1, 1972, Welldorf was incorporated into Jülich with Güsten.
