Stebenich is a district of Jülich in the Düren district , North Rhine-Westphalia .
location
Stebenich is located in the Jülich-Zülpicher Börde west of the Sophienhöhe . In the north and east, the place is surrounded by the Lindenberg Forest. The Mühlengraben and the Ellebach run to the south and west . The research center Jülich is located about 1 km south of Stetternich im Selgenbusch . Neighboring towns are Hambach in the south, Jülich and Lich-Steinstrasse in the north- west and Welldorf in the north . The federal road 55 , the old Roman Via Belgica, runs directly on the northern edge of the village .
history
Stebenich was originally a Roman settlement at the junction of the former road to Düren from the Roman road. On January 1, 1972, the Aachen law made Stetternich a district of Jülich.

Buildings
The parish church of St. Martinus was first mentioned in the 13th century. The tower of the current church was built in 1716 on the remains of a previous church from the 12th century. In 1803/04, after a fire, the current church building was added, which was expanded in 1936 and badly damaged in the Second World War . The parish church is dedicated to St. Martin .
The castle Lindenberg is a Wasserburg between the Ellebach and the mill ditch. It was probably founded as early as the 12th century.

The Stebenich water tower was rebuilt in 1957.
