history

Until the end of the 18th century, the villages of today's Niederzier municipality belonged to the Duchy of Jülich under Palatinate-Bavarian sovereignty , with Ellen, Hambach, Huchem, Krauthausen, Niederzier, Selhausen and Stammeln belonging to the Hambach Dingstuhl , which in turn was subordinate to the Nörvenich office . At that time, Oberzier belonged to the Hambach winery in the Düren district . From 1798 to 1814 Hambach was the seat of a Mairie in the Département de la Roer . In the population list of the year 1799 591 inhabitants and a stock of 125 houses are shown for Hambach.

From 1961 until the incorporation was the zip code "5171 Hambach (via Jülich)", from 1972 to 1993 "5162 Niederzier", since then "52382 Niederzier".

On January 1st, 1972 Hambach was incorporated into Niederzier. A small uninhabited part of the community came to Jülich .
