Ellen ( Dürener Platt Elle ) is a southeastern part of Niederzier in the Düren district .

geography

Ellen lies between Oberzier and Düren - Arnoldsweiler . The Ellebach flows past the village to the west, and the Hambach open-cast lignite mine is to the east . According to current planning, Germany's deepest lake will emerge there after 2090 , the volume of which would only be exceeded by Lake Constance .

history

In Ellen from 1190 to 1802 there was a convent of the Premonstratensians . Here Leonhard Goffiné worked as a chaplain. From 1794 the left bank of the Rhine and thus also Ellen was under French rule . Between 1798 and 1814 Ellen belonged to the Mairie Arnoldsweiler in the Département de la Roer . In the population list of 1799, Ellen has 285 inhabitants and 72 houses.

From 1961 to the incorporation in 1972 the postcode was "5161 Ellen (via Düren)", from 1972 to 1993 "5162 Niederzier 3", since then "52382 Niederzier".

On January 1, 1972, Ellen was incorporated into Niederzier.

Bürgewald

Ellen belongs to the so-called Bürgewald communities that owned the rights to the Bürgewald . According to the legend, this is due to the holy Arnold von Arnoldsweiler , through the legendary "Ride around the Bürgewald". The main town of the Bürgewald communities is Arnoldsweiler.

The next motorway junction is Merzenich / Niederzier on the A 4 . The nearest train stations are Düren on the high-speed route Cologne – Aachen , Huchem-Stammeln on the Jülich – Düren railway line and the Merzenich stop on the S 12 / S 13 (Düren- Cologne / Düren- Cologne / Bonn airport ).
