Linguistic classification |
Dürener Platt is a Ripuarian dialect , which is increasingly spoken in the urban area of Düren and also in parts of the Düren district . The distribution area is between Aachen ( Öcher Platt ) and Cologne ( Kölsch ) in the western Rhineland. It is interesting that the Dürener Platt differs more clearly from the Öcher Platt than from the Kölsch, although Düren is a little closer to Aachen than Cologne. The Dürener Platt language changes slightly as soon as you change town for a few kilometers.

Today's distribution
In Düren you can find the Dürener Platt in the Düren Carnival , and there are even songs in this dialect . There are also bars and pubs that use this dialect in their name.
Düren has its own association for maintaining dialect, the Dürener Platt e. V. , who organized events in Platt and also published a dictionary . The border to Öcher Platt runs around Langerwehe . There you start to sing, as you would say when speaking the Aachen dialect. Kölsch is spoken across the Rhein-Erft district to Cologne and beyond. The differences to Dürener Platt are not very big here.
The Düren local poet Josef Schregel , the Kreuzau Tillmann Gottschalk and Josef Heinrichs from Düren wrote many poems and essays in Dürener Platt. Some dialect bands, such as B. the Schweess Fööss ("sweat feet") sing mainly in Dürener Platt.
