Koslar is the largest district of Jülich in the Düren district , North Rhine-Westphalia .

location

The mill pond flows through the village . The Rur flows on the eastern edge of the village . To the west lies Engelsdorf (municipality Aldenhoven ), in the north Barmen, in the east and south Jülich Bourheim.

history

The place was first mentioned in a document when Theoderich von Koslar was mentioned as a witness in the alliance between the Archbishop of Cologne and the Duke of Lorraine in 1208. This Koslar noble family died out in 1420.

Koslar was captured by troops of the US Army (two companies of the 116th Infantry Division) on the morning of November 25, 1944 .

On January 1, 1972, Koslar became a district of Jülich through the Aachen Act .

In the village there is the community elementary school West and the day care center "Unterm Regenbogen".

The federal motorway 44 runs on the southern outskirts . The public transport , the Rurtalbus GmbH by the bus lines 279 (partly as call bus) and 281 and safely through a call taxi.

From 1911 to 1971 the Jülich Kreisbahn operated a railway line from Jülich via Kirchberg and Koslar to Puffendorf with passenger traffic. That is why the two-track Koslar station had a small reception building. Until 1980, the route was used for transporting sugar beet to the Jülich sugar factory , then until 1999 almost exclusively for transporting the scrap dealer Plum in Puffendorf. Over the years, rail freight transport has continued to decline.
