The law on the reorganization of communities in the Coesfeld district was promulgated on June 27, 1969 and restructured 15 communities in the Coesfeld district . In addition, the offices of Gescher, Billerbeck and Buldern were dissolved.

As a result of the Münster / Hamm Act , additional municipalities in the Coesfeld district were reorganized on January 1, 1975, the previous Coesfeld district (January 1, 1939 to September 30, 1969: Coesfeld district) was dissolved and the towns and municipalities were mainly the new Coesfeld district assigned, only Gescher came to the new district of Borken.
