history
After the Napoleonic era , the area of the municipality initially belonged to the Rorup mayor in the Coesfeld district, founded in 1816. With the introduction of the Westphalian rural community code in 1843, the Rorup mayor's office became the Rorup office , to which the Limbergen community also belonged.
On July 1, 1969, the law on the reorganization of municipalities in the Coesfeld district resulted in the restructuring of the southern half of the Limbergen municipality, essentially the old Limbergen community, with an area of 9.9 km² and 252 inhabitants in the neighboring municipality of Buldern . Buldern in turn was incorporated into the city of Dülmen in 1975.
The remaining municipality of Limbergen, which essentially comprised the old Hövel farmers, was dissolved on January 1, 1975 by the Münster / Hamm law . The majority with 8 km² fell to the municipality of Nottuln, the remaining area of 2.5 km² to the city of Dülmen. Legal successor to the municipality of Limbergen is the municipality of Nottuln, although the actual farmers in Limbergen belong to Dülmen today.
