Floyd Crawford (born November 28, 1928 in Toronto , Ontario , † November 11, 2017 in Belleville , Ontario) was a Canadian ice hockey player who won the Allan Cup with the Belleville McFarlands in 1958 and the Ice Hockey World Championship the following year . His sons Bob , Marc and Lou became NHL professionals.

Career

Crawford began his career in the Ligue de hockey senior du Québec , in which he played for the Montreal Royals and the Chicoutimi Saguenéens . He then played underclass for Rimouski Renards and in the OHA Senior A for the Windsor Bulldogs . From 1956 to 1959 he was on the ice with their league rivals Belleville McFarlands. With the team he was able to win the Allan Cup in 1958 by a 4: 3 series of finals after 1: 3 deficit against the Kelowna Packers from British Columbia . After this success he played for the Omaha Knights and the Des Moines Oak Leafs in the International Hockey League and in between two years for the Syracuse Stars.

International

After winning the Allan Cup in 1958, the Belleville McFarlands were selected by the Canadian Ice Hockey Federation to represent the country as the Canadian national team at the 1959 World Cup in Czechoslovakia. Crawford led the team as team captain with seven wins from eight games - only the last game of the final round against hosts Czechoslovakia was lost 3: 5 - to the world championship.

Coaching career

After the end of his active career in 1966 Crawford engaged in the coaching business. He worked for the Belleville Mohawks from the OHA Senior A as well as the Cornwall Royals and the Guelph Platers from the Ontario Hockey League .
