The Chicoutimi Saguenéens ( Engl . Chicoutimi Sagueneens) is a Canadian junior hockey team from Chicoutimi in the Province of Quebec , which currently in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League play. The franchise plays its home games in the Center Georges-Vézina .
history
For the 1973/74 season the Saguenéens de Chicoutimi were founded, the epithet Saguenéens translated means “people from the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region ( Saguenay for short )”. The "Sags" have already won the Coupe du Président , the championship of the LHJMQ twice, which entitles them to participate in the Memorial Cup in both 1991 and 1994 . However, the team failed in both participations in the preliminary round of this championship of the umbrella organization CHL , which is played annually between the champions of the three Canadian top junior leagues WHL , OHL and LHJMQ. In 1997, the franchise also took part in the Memorial Cup as runner-up in the LHJMQ, as the master Hull Olympiques was automatically qualified to host the tournament. In 1988, the Memorial Cup had already been held in the local Center Georges-Vézina, but since the LHJMQ rules of the time stated that the host must have been at least in the league final in order to be allowed to participate in the Cup, the Saguenéens were not entitled to participate.
