The regular 2001/02 season ended Bouchard with a yield of 140 scorer points , for which he had laid the foundation with his 94 assists. In addition to the LHJMQ scorer title, he also won the CHL Top Scorer Award as the best point player in the entire Canadian Hockey League . As the winner of the Michel Brière Trophy for the most valuable player in his league, Bouchard then prevailed against Dan Hamhuis from the Western Hockey League and Brad Boyes from the Ontario Hockey League in the election for CHL Player of the Year . He was also selected by the LHJMQ with the Michael Bossy Trophy as the league's most promising talent for the upcoming NHL Entry Draft .

He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2002 in the first round as the eighth player of the Minnesota Wild , for which he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2002/03 season . Between 2002 and 2013, Bouchard played continuously for the Minnesota team. Only during the lockout in the 2004/05 season was the attacker the entire season on the ice for their farm team , the Houston Eros , in the American Hockey League .

In July 2013, Bouchard signed a one-year contract with the New York Islanders , who placed him on the Waiver after 28 missions and then sent him to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in the AHL. In February 2014 he was given to the Chicago Blackhawks .

For the season 2014/15 Pierre-Marc Bouchard signed a one year contract with the EV train from the Swiss National League A .
