Elisabeth Dorothea von Hessen-Darmstadt (born April 24, 1676 in Darmstadt , † September 9, 1721 in Homburg vor der Höhe ) was Landgravine of Hessen-Homburg by marriage .

Life

Elisabeth Dorothea was the youngest daughter of Landgrave Ludwig VI. von Hessen-Darmstadt (1630–1678) from his marriage to Elisabeth Dorothea von Sachsen-Gotha-Altenburg (1640–1709), daughter of Ernst I von Sachsen-Gotha-Altenburg .

She married Landgrave Friedrich III in Butzbach in February 1700 . Jakob von Hessen-Homburg . Elisabeth Dorothea was described as very witty. She was active as a writer and mastered German, French, Latin and Italian as well as Greek. The Landgrave Jean Puget de La Serres translated “ Pensées sur la mort ” into Italian. She raised her children largely herself.
