Magdalena Sibylle of Prussia
Magdalena Sibylle of Prussia (born December 31, 1586 in Königsberg , † February 12, 1659 in Dresden ) was a princess of the Duchy of Prussia and was elector of Saxony by marriage .
Life
Magdalene Sibylle was the fifth and youngest daughter of Duke Albrecht Friedrich of Prussia (1553-1618) from his marriage to Marie Eleonore (1550-1608), daughter of Duke Wilhelm the Rich of Jülich-Kleve-Berg . The princess grew up with her sisters in Königsberg Castle and was raised to be an enthusiastic Protestant .
Magdalene Sibylle became the second wife of Elector Johann Georg I of Saxony (1585–1656) on July 19, 1607 in Torgau . She resented her husband that he turned away from Gustav Adolf , whom she admired, and turned to Emperor Ferdinand during the Thirty Years' War ( Peace of Prague 1635). She also stood up for Swedish prisoners of war who worked at the Dresden fortress construction and was friends with the Swedish Queen Maria Eleonora . She had a Vorwerk with gardening and cattle yard in the fishing village near Dresden and from 1644 the estate Gorbitz .
Magdalena Sibylle promoted painting and poetry. On October 8, 1656 she became a widow. She then lived in the Frau Kurfürstin house in Dresden. She died in 1659 and was buried in Freiberg Cathedral .
