August Tiemann

August Tiemann (born May 7, 1895 in Meiersfeld near Detmold; † July 15, 1982 there ) was a German forage scientist.

Live and act

Tiemann, son of a farmer, studied agriculture at the University of Halle and received his doctorate there in 1921 with a dissertation in the field of phytopathology . From 1929 to 1945 he was director and professor of the Institute for Grassland Management and Forage Production in Kraftborn near Breslau. Here he gained a high reputation among experts through pioneering work in the fields of field forage production, forage conservation and forage plant breeding. In 1947 he returned to his parents' farm in Meiersfeld. From 1949 to 1960 he was able to continue his forage research work as an employee at the Chamber of Agriculture Westphalia-Lippe on the Johannettental experimental farm.
